WGI is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm, so the scope of our services is quite vast. But my particular interest in wanting to engage the AIA (and the Austin community in particular) revolves around the modernization of tree mitigation practices using LiDAR technologies. In collaborating with Michael Embesis (with Bartlett and prior COA arborist) WGI has developed a roster of tree data services (i.e., capture, process, analyze, and delivery) that cover the whole scope of tree mitigation scenarios. My goal is to both inform and educate the architectural community about what is now possible with these technologies and how, given the COAs recent code changes that increase the possible building area of a lot, such data can streamline the entire tree mitigation process.
