A Wallet That’s Never Lost

In the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, Syrian refugees can use an iris scanner to pay for groceries. The program, called Building Blocks, helps the World Food Programme to give cash-for-food aid to over 100,000 refugees in Jordan. Many hope such a system could eventually lead to a “digital wallet” that would allow refugees to confirm their identities for a widespread set of services, even without documents.
