Matagorda Bay is the point where Texas’s 862-mile Lower Colorado River empties out into the Gulf of Mexico, creating a brackish soup that is nutrient-rich—and, consequently, a feeding ground for oysters. This is an antique survey of Matagorda Bay’s oyster beds, published by the Department of Commerce and Labor’s Bureau of Fisheries in 1907.
