Old Bakery is Open to a New Future
Our Old bakery efforts are at a crossroads, so let me take this opportunity to refocus our message: ////
We’ve collected over 700 ideas for short and long-term improvements and activities on the Old Bakery Block at 1000 Congress Ave., and now wish to leverage our work by applying these ideas to parallel and complementary planning efforts.////
We can craft involvement tools to share on our existing website. We applied for a grant to host micro-events to gather design professionals, stakeholders and community members in order to equip them to act on the community’s recommendations toward improving this important downtown public space.////
Our first effort will be to support the Austin Parks Foundation, PARD, and DAA toward near-term improvements in the City pocket park. ////
We are providing opportunities for architects and designers to grow as leaders of the community, to elevate the profile of architecture and design in the Austin Region, and to build stronger connections to the community at large.////
We wish to see the Old Bakery Block develop as an “Idea Bakery” that hosts, incubates, and promotes interdisciplinary involvement in Placemaking. Ultimately, a thriving 1000 Congress Avenue will serve as a vibrant gateway between the State Capitol and Austin’s Downtown via the Main Street of Texas, Congress Avenue .////
Please join us "third Wednesdays" at 11:30AM in the park at 1000 Congress Avenue, or perhaps inside the Old Bakery if the air conditioning beckons.
