AIA Membership

Since 1857, the AIA has represented the professional interests of America’s architects. As AIA members, more than 88,000 licensed architects express their commitment to excellence in design and livability in our nation’s buildings and communities. Architect Member (AIA)

Individuals with an architectural license from a U.S. licensing authority are eligible for Architect membership. Click here to join or rejoin.

International Associate Member (Intl. Assoc. AIA)

Individuals who have an architecture license or equivalent from a non-U.S. licensing authority are eligible for International Associate membership.

Associate Member (Assoc. AIA)

Associate membership is open to individuals who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Professional degree in architecture
  • Currently work under the supervision of an architect
  • Currently enrolled in the Intern Development Program (IDP) and working toward licensure
  • Faculty member in a university program in architecture

Associate: New Graduate Member (Assoc. AIA)

Congratulations, graduate! The AIA offers complimentary membership for recent graduates of accredited schools of architecture. Simply provide a copy of your diploma with your membership application and you receive free membership with the AIA for up to 18 months! Note that this promotion begins upon date of graduation and not your join date (e.g., a June 2012 graduate receives complimentary membership through December 31, 2013).

Eligibility for Associates/New Graduates: NAAB Degree Holders Only

  • Recently graduated with a NAAB-accredited Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate professional degree in architecture within approximately the past 1 - 18 months. APPLY HERE.

Eligibility for IDP Holders and Those Working Under Licensed U.S. Architects: Non-NAAB Degree Holders Only

  • Currently work under the supervision of an architect in a professional or technical capacity directly related to the practice of architecture, AND
  • Recently graduated with a non-NAAB Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate professional degree in architecture within approximately the past 1 - 18 months. APPLY HERE.

OR

  • Currently work under the supervision of an architect in a professional or technical capacity directly related to the practice of architecture, AND
  • Currently enrolled or participating in circumstances recognized by licensing authorities as constituting credit towards architectural licensure. APPLY HERE.
