As Austin faces hurdles for planning for rapid growth, an exploration of planning processes and appropriate mix of housing inventory questions the role of current community-based approaches to urban design. Please join the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Department of Urban Studies & Planning (DUSP) as they share their integrated strategies, collaboration techniques, and big ideas for the future of small area planning that reimagines an urban design framework for ‘complete communities’ in Austin. In collaboration with the AIA Austin Urban Design Committee, this five month academic exercise brings a holistic approach to Austin's small area planning with an emphasis on Northeast Austin and South 1st Street. There will also be an opportunity to get an update from City of Austin staff about what is currently in the works with Small Area Planning in Austin. This event is open to the public and AIA members.
